Northern Lights traces its roots primarily to Afghani indica landraces, prized for their resilience, compact structure, and high resin output. These traits made it especially suited to indoor cultivation, which was becoming increasingly important during the 1980s.

After its initial development in the United States, Northern Lights was refined and stabilised in the Netherlands, where breeders selected phenotypes that combined potency with consistency. This process transformed Northern Lights from a powerful plant into a reliable genetic template.

Northern Lights is best known for its deeply calming, body-focused effects. The experience typically begins with a gentle mental ease before settling into pronounced physical relaxation.
